Easy DIY Toothpaste Recipe

Purchase all the ingredients for this easy DIY toothpaste recipe from a local health food store or online. I buy my ingredients here.

What you need for homemade clay toothpaste

Bentonite clay – has the ability to absorb toxins, heavy metals, and impurities. It’s a legit detox tool, not like juice fasting and spinach smoothies, but something that actually helps both internally and externally. I always keep some in my “medicine” cabinet. Clay is also very mineral-rich. It contains calcium, magnesium and other minerals.

Powdered erythritol or liquid stevia drops – added to balance the baking soda and salt. In the amount of 1 tsp, the flavor is neutral, not salty or bitter but also not sweet. For more active sweetness add up to ½ – 1 tbsp of powdered sweetener or liquid stevia drops to taste.

Baking soda – an alkaline powder that contains minerals and helps whiten teeth.

Salt – has antibacterial qualities, trace minerals, and a touch of flavor.

Coconut oil – soothes and cleanses the mouth with antibacterial and antifungal properties. It also binds the loose ingredients into a proper paste.

Cinnamon essential oil – with antibacterial properties it helps discourage bacterial growth in the mouth while tasting great.

Hot water – use filtered water to avoid impurities such as fluoride, chlorine, and other nasties. Add just a little at a time until you achieve the desired consistency. Use hot water, but not boiling.

How to make clay toothpaste at home

Gather materials and measure them out according to the recipe below. And mix together in a bowl. If you notice any of your powders look a little clumpy, break apart any lumps with the back of a spoon before adding the coconut oil and water.

When using bentonite clay, you want to avoid contact with metal bowl and spoons. This specific type of clay has the ability to bind to heavy metals and draw them out of our bodies. If it interacts with a metal bowl or something similar before, the effectiveness may decrease. Therefore, it is best to use glass or ceramic containers and wooden utensils.

Mix all ingredients well. Taste and add more sweetener or essential oil if desired.

Store the toothpaste in a glass jar or squeeze tube with a lid. Use 2-3 times a day.

If kept air-tight, the toothpaste will last for a while, but not forever. Always use your best judgment.

Natural & Keto Friendly Toothpaste

With 100% all-natural ingredients, you can rest easy knowing this is a clean and healthy toothpaste option for the whole family.

It is also primal and keto diet-friendly. This formula doesn’t have any hidden sweeteners or oddities that will mess with your blood sugar or detract from your health goals.

Personally, I prefer this toothpaste to my kid-friendly (toddler-safe) toothpaste recipe. The kids would say otherwise, but for me, their toothpaste was just too sweet. But hey, they brush their teeth without a fight so I’m not complaining!

Budget-friendly too!

Your monthly budget won’t take a big hit after shopping for these ingredients. They are reasonably priced and will last for many uses.

The ingredient list is a relatively common one for homemade beauty and personal care. Save leftover coconut oil for DIY Tallow Balm Lotion and infuse your next batch of Cold-Process Soap with Tallow with cinnamon essential oil. Bentonite clay makes an excellent facial mask after begin mixed with water, you can have a spa day at home!

Homemade Earthpaste Recipe

This recipe is similar to Earthpaste, an all-natural, store-bought toothpaste brand made without fluoride, sodium lauryl sulfate, or glycerin.

With a positive list of ingredients that help the remineralization process of teeth, the product is a great choice. However, at $7.99 a tube, it’s not such a practical buy. Keeper of the Home has a homemade Earthpaste alternative that is the exact replica. It nails the traditional sweet peppermint, tea tree flavor perfectly.

For me, I’m a cinnamon gal, so making my own bentonite clay toothpaste recipe which gives me the same health benefits in combo with my favorite flavor. Now I don’t have to break into my savings for natural toothpaste!

Remineralization, Whiten, & Clean

This toothpaste WORKS!

Each ingredient works to facilitate the remineralization process while safely whitening and cleaning your mouth. I’m thrilled about taking just 10 minutes in my own kitchen to mix up a paste loaded with these benefits.

Tooth remineralization is a real thing.

I know first hand the remineralization process is real and can be successful. At 1.5 years old, my daughter had severe dental caries. We remedied them with diet and remineralizing toothpaste. The teeth firmed up and stopped crumbling. Now she has big, white, healthy-looking adult teeth.

If remineralization is your goal, stay away from toothpaste that contains glycerin. Go read the label on your tube right now and then come back to learn more. Glycerin gives a smooth texture and emulsifies the paste, unfortunately, it also inhibits the remineralization process. So keep it out of your mouth!

How to Remineralize Teeth Naturally

Diet has a huge impact in this process also. Animal foods are necessary carriers of essential fat-soluble vitamins like A, D, E and K2 which allow us to assimilate our nutrition and properly accumulate minerals. This is a central reason why my family eats organ meats, makes fermented raw dairy foods, cooks with a lot of butter and tallow, and eats wild-caught seafood.

This information is nothing new, Weston A. Price, a dentist himself, brought attention to this knowledge when he set off around the world examining traditional societies free of degenerative illness and cavities. Everyone should read his findings published in the book Nutrition and Physical Degeneration.

The Weston A. Price Foundation remains active and continues to educate and share their knowledge. We have had the pleasure to speak with their spokeswoman Sally Fallon Morell on the Primal Edge Podcast about nourishing diets, fertility foods, and raw milk.

But don’t just take my word for it! I’m not the only one who has seen the beneficial effects of remineralizing their family’s teeth with food and mineral-rich toothpaste.
