History[]
Nemesis first appeared as a super-criminal besting the best policemen in Tokyo, Singapore, China, Hong Kong, and North Korea. After the death of Tokyo's Chief Inspector, Nemesis targeted Washington DC Chief of Police; Blake Morrow. Nemesis claimed to be Matthew Anderson and that he had become Nemesis after Blake previously arrested Matthew's father for running a private hunting club that preyed on rich friends and teenage runaways for fifteen years. Nemesis kidnapped The President of the United States and terrorized America's capitol constantly one-upping Blake and tearing his home life apart. Eventually, Blake was brought face-to-face with Nemesis who revealed that he was not Matthew Anderson and that Nemesis was simply a rich man bored and looking for some excitement. In the end, Blake successfully killed Nemesis and retired only to be given a letter by an unknown individual who ran a business that turned rich people into supervillains.
In Nemesis: Reloaded, Matthew Anderson's origin was retooled to better fit into the Millarverse. In this new origin, Matthew was the son of two drug dealers who were eventually arrested by Police Officer Joe Costello and accused of murdering female hitchhikers in Los Angeles. The two were found guilty of the murders and sentenced to lethal injection. Matthew ran away from the foster home where he was eventually recruited by a dark cult that groomed him to be the perfect killer before Matthew could take his revenge on Costello who was now running for Mayor of Los Angeles. Eventually, Nemesis passed the cult's test and took his revenge on Costello and his fellow officers who had planted evidence on Matthew's parents to frame them for the murders in order to close the case and make the police look like heroes. In his training, Matthew also learned the secret of Ernest George Marshall; the President America forgot. Marshall was elected in 1980 with Ronald Regan as his Vice-President. Marshall only served in office for a tumultuous year beginning with the Iranian Hostage Crisis and ending with three alien invaders in the White House. Marshall stepped down after one year as President and wrote his memoir which was the truth that the world had not always been as it was. Once, the skies were filled with superhumans battling constantly until in 1985, the world's supervillains united and defeated the heroes once-and-for-all, making the world forget superhumans ever existed. Nemesis' Master also revealed himself to be Wesley Gibson/The Killer II, who then brought Matthew into The Fraternity of Supervillains.
In Big Game, Wesley decided that with the return of a fantastical world involving space heroes, vampires, time travel, and super teams, the world needed to be cleansed before the heroes could fully regroup and discover what The Fraternity had done. Nemesis was ordered to take down the Super Team known as The Ambassadors, but thanks to a time-traveling Hit-Girl warning them in advance, Nemesis' plan to steal their powers was thwarted and he was savagely beaten with every bone in his body broken, and The Fraternity defeated. Nemesis was left in a hospital bed guarded at all times, but eventually escaped to heal his body and wreak havoc on the world once more.
